BOE Candidates' Night on April 7

The League of Women Voters will hold a Candidates' Night for Board of Education candidates on April 7 at 7:30 p.m., on the 3rd floor of the Ed Center. This event is commonly called the "debate," but it's really more like four people making statements on pre-arranged themes/questions. Last time it was held was in 2008, and that time, I believe there was time for a few questions from the audience at the end. I don't know exactly what the format will be this time.

I also am not sure if the event is broadcast on Cablevision Channel 77. I'll post more details when I get them.

Thanks, Laurie.

(This is one of those times I really pine for these events to be on FIOS.)

This event is a total joke. The moderators haven't a clue as to what is relevant in Ridgewood to voters. I would like to see a real debate. An exchange of ideas. Instead we get mindless questions from a pompous outsider. Waste of time for all involved.

I think we should hold a real debate; hosted by the Ridgewood Blog. Now that would be worth watching.

Oh, come on, it's not that bad. They do provide time for questions from the public. Will you be there, front and center? Toss me a softball, will ya? (KIDDING) Also, the LWV questions are in fact developed by Ridgewood residents. You're right...the typical moderator isn't from Ridgewood, but that's by design. They try to keep it utterly impartial.

I wouldn''t mind a "real debate" -- exciting! -- but hosted by the Ridgewood Blog? Yikes. No, thank you. Unless of course your only goal was to stir-up controversy in order to maximize page views. Entertaining, but not exactly "democracy." ;)

I imagine you feel the same way about Fox News as you do the Ridgewood Blog.

To 7:45 pm: I don't know about Laurie, but I prefer the Ridgewood Blog over Fox News. Fox News pretends to be fair.....but its bias is apparent, and it is very intolerant. The Ridgewood Blog says it is pro free market oriented, and it is, but I have found it to be open to questions and varying opinions in its public comments section.
Frankly, I'd love to see the four candidates publish their opinions on various issues - lights, math wars, subsitutes in RHS, etc.....anywhere, and then let it be discussed on the Blog, Patch, etc.

To 9:14 That's funny...you think the Ridgewood Blog is fair and balanced because it "says" it is? Hahaha! I've posted comments MULTIPLE times that the Ridgewood Blog Owner chooses to ignore and does NOT publish! I know it's happened to others too. He has you fooled, idiot!

to 10:42 from 9:14;
If you reread my post and your comment on it, I think you"ll find a possible solution to why you don't get published.
Your write that I think something because they "say" so, I wrote about what "I have found". A very big difference.
Your quick to resort to ad hominem arguments (use of "idiot" for disagreeing) doesn't enhance the value of your comment.
If you are more accurate and more polite, your views might stand a better chance of getting published.
Best Wishes.

There are many times that PJ wont post my comments. But more often than not he does. I don't take offense and some times I re-phrase them so that he does post them.

He also posts many of my comments as a lead item. So maybe, like your comment here, you really have nothing of value to say.
